Debate Sub-Forum

Post  Facelt on Thu Dec 10, 2009 12:54 am

I'm sure there are a ton of other debate enthusiasts who enjoy debating on quite controversial subjects, so why not suggest a specific sub-forum to discuss it?! :D

Nope Bryan, this is the right section since it's about the forum itself. Suggestions is more WillMS related.
Debating is nice and all but it could lead to flaming haha LOOL Anyways, I haven't seen anyone start a debating thread yet, plus it could also go in the Off Topic Section.

Yeah, I was more looking for somewhere that could be specifically designated to subjects such as abortion, g*y marriage, marijuana legalization, etc.. Just somewhere we can go to discuss matters in a mature way. :P

Yeah I like that idea since I like talking about the recent things that happen in the news with my dad. That's our car ride conversations :)
I do agree with this suggestion since I think we need more mature things around the forum although at the same time, I don't think many of the forum users are ready for it.

Have a no tolerance policy for stupidity? If someone flames or whips out some pathetic little argument just have them blocked from the sub-forum. This will prevent further flaming to occur, and reduce the debate section to only those with half a brain.

Obviously he didn't really read April's post carefully. Anyway, I'm starting to think that his idea might not be that bad, but Vinnyboy's one is really more interesting =P

It's NOT a flaming section. Obviously you've never debated before. And this seems to be a debating topic within itself. There will obviously be rules and only the people who can be mature about it will be allowed to post. Those who are not will be blocked from the sub-forum.

Settler11 wrote:-10 on Miss Y post.

Settler11 wrote:But ehh, is it going to be a good idea..? I mean, to avoid the change of flamers?
It's not avoiding flamers. Debating and flaming are very different. Debating: for the mature. Flaming: insulting another or for children who have something up their as- too high.
Debating is not about "you suck" or "that idea sucks", it is an argument but it goes farther than "you suck" it's more "I don't prefer that idea because.." or "I'd rather..".

A good example would be talking about Abortion.
Flaming:
"Abortion sucks. F--k those who want to do it."

Debating:
Pros: Child could end up in a bad life if parent(s) can't support.
Cons: Killing your own baby.

Pro side: "I agree with this because I wouldn't want my child to end up in a bad neighbourhood/environment."
Con side: "I don't believe in killing anything. If it were up to me I'd support my child no matter what"

Instead of..
Pro side: "I agree with this because I wouldn't want my child to end up in a bad neighbourhood/environment."
Con side: "You suck, grow some balls and take care of your kid."

Fixed

I think we should have a current affairs Category or a Thread and discuss.

Anyways, erm I'm going to close this if people continue to get off topic/spam. I think Will accepted the suggestion already but I'm not sure when he's going to put it up. I'll leave this open until I see it.

I think that adding in a Debate Section would be a good idea. There will be flaming, but thats what they created mods for.... When it gets out of hand, we get a warning, cleaned thread, and we continue. Good idea :]

Actually, I think it's going to be a dead topic unless someone is bothered to find news (for all ages) so that anyone is able to discuss.

The youngin probably don't like talking about current affairs anyways. Plus, sometimes when you discuss something it could be for everyone since we want different points of views. But you're right about it being a dead thread. Tech Talk is already like that.
